Base64 Encoder and Decoder
Encode text to Base64 or decode a Base64 string back to readable text. Text is handled as UTF-8, so accented characters and emoji work too.
How to Use the Base64 Encoder and Decoder
- Choose Encode or Decode from the dropdown above the input.
- Paste the text you want to encode, or the Base64 string you want to decode.
- Copy the result from the result panel.

About the Base64 Encoder and Decoder
Base64 represents data using 64 safe ASCII characters. Developers use it in HTTP Basic Auth headers, data URIs, JSON payloads, email attachments and tokens.
Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to protect passwords or secrets. This tool works with text only. It expects standard Base64 (with + and /), so URL-safe Base64 that uses - and _ needs those characters swapped back before decoding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Base64 a form of encryption?
No. Base64 only changes how data is represented, and anyone can decode it. Do not use it to hide sensitive information.
Why does decoding fail?
The input must be valid standard Base64: only A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /, with optional = padding at the end. Extra characters, or URL-safe Base64 using - and _, will cause an error.
Does it support emoji and non-English text?
Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 before encoding, and decoded output is read as UTF-8.
Can I encode files or images?
Not with this tool. It only encodes and decodes text you type or paste.
